After this one ran, Terry Fox said, "So, you're the guy who didn't like my cage." The line about "Parts of the trophies flew into the crowd and struck a fan who juiced hardway" happened to Barb. She really bled (slightly) from the broken trophy parts flying out of the ring. We still have those parts. She'd see more action later on in her wrestling career.

Minnesota Independent Wrestling

May 20, 2000

Wave Bar Waverly, MN

The card was held in a horseshoe pit. The ring was on one side and all the chairs were on the other. The chairs were full and people were standing in the back. No bell was brought so two horseshoes were banged together to start the matches.

1.) Thor pinned Dr. Darin Davis following a neckbreaker. Kind of a slow match. D.D.D. hit a good looking Acid Drop for a two count.

2.) The Chi-Town Thug pinned Helmut von Strauss following an inverted DDT. Cynnamon was not there. Helmut is a skinny kid with a bad German accent, but a good heel grimace. (Editor's note: This was the unscheduled pro debut of Von Strauss.)

3.) Blood pinned Sheriff Johnny Emerald following interference from Playboy Pete Huge. After Pete hit the Sheriff with his belt, Blood finished him off with a kneedrop. S.J.E. hit a good monkey flip. Blood worked the crowd in his usual manner and toyed with the idea of climbing the roof of the Wave, but wisely thought better of it.

4.) Robbie Thunder pinned Judge Jesse. Thunder is a big green kid. (Editor's note: I believe this was Judge Jesse's Minnesota debut.)

5.) Playboy Pete Huge pinned Primetime after hitting him with a foreign object to retain the cruiserweight title. This was the best match of the night. The two fought outside of the ring, ramming each other into a wall and a cedar fence. The action in the ring was fast and athletic.

6.) Mitch Paradise pinned Shifty (w/the High Rollers) after a pump handle slam in a non-title match. Shifty sold well. The High Rollers were sent away at the beginning of the match, so only had a small part. This was also a good match.

Then came a long intermission, longer than 45 minutes, to assemble the cage. Hose clamps, muffler clamps and rope were used to hold it together. The cage looked old and rusty. It was designed poorly, constructed poorly, and assembled poorly. During the intermission it began to rain, and rained throughout the final match. After intermission, but before the cage match, Terry Fox, Ed Hellier, and Mick Karch presented trophies to Kenny Jay and Buck "Rock 'n' Roll" Zumhofe. The High Rollers interrupted the presentation and mocked the two AWA veterans, noting that Jay's trophy was bigger than Zumhofe's. Buck then went after Jay. The High Rollers joined in and the three of them beat up Jay and Terry Fox. Fox bled. Parts of the trophies flew into the crowd and struck a fan who juiced hardway. Mitch Paradise made the save for Fox. This set up a match for next month in Becker.

7.) Cruel & Unusual defeated Storm Wolf & Steve Stardom in a steel cage match. It was raining hard by this time, but the crowd stayed. C&U brought weapons, including two chairs. Referee Frank Stool stayed outside the ring. Even so, the two teams tagged in and out conventionally. Stool hid from the rain beneath a towel, looking like Tazz. Storm Wolf hit two good drop kicks into chairs held by the heels. He also jumped off the top of the cage. In order, Hoofer, Xavier, and Stardom bladed. (Editor's note: I also received a note about Hoofer being busted up the hard way when a chair was dropkicked into him. He was bleeding from the cheek and upper eye. All were said to have put in a lot of effort.) The finish came in an odd manner. At one point Xavier said: "Let's get out of here", and C&U left the ring. Stool then declared Cruel and Unusual the winners.

AWF
Elk River High School
February 7, 2009

AWF drew a big crowd to Elk River High School.  One side of the bleachers was full with many more sitting in folding chairs on the basketball floor.  Scott Zappa announced the show.  They used the High Roller's ring.  This show had a religious theme.  Singer Art Perry karaoked a gospel song at the start, and did so VERY loudly.

1.)  "Livewire" Johnny Parks (face) pinned Angel Armoni (heel).  Jay Soltis was the referee.  Starting out, Armoni threatened to leave.  Parks hit a springboard moonsault for a two count.  Armoni answered with a neckbreaker, then tried a pin with his feet on the ropes.  Soltis saw his skullduggery and refused to count.  They argued briefly, until Parks surprised Angel with a quick roll up for the pin.  This match was nothing more than perfunctory.  After, Armoni worked the crowd.

2.)  Thoruf Marias (w/Sheik Adnan al-Kassie, heels) pinned "The Genuine Article" Chris Jordan (face).
Sheik had a new outfit on (well it was new to me) and sported a bandaged hand.  Jordan glad handed the crowd, winding his way up into the bleachers.  Soon into the match Jordan, with a mighty effort, knocked Marias out of the ring.  Back in, CJ connected with a DDT.  A big boot from Thoruf put that one on top.  He continued with a side salto and a big time leg drop.  He tried for a pin, becoming frustrated that he could gain only a two count from referee Rob Page.  Marias hit a fallaway slam, then threw Jordan into a corner.  CJ flipped out of the ring.  There he was attacked by Sheik Adnan.  Back in Thoruf tried a bear hug.  Chris Jordan made a three arm check Superman comeback.  CJ went on the attack with a missile drop kick and a flying elbow smash.  He tried to pick up Marias for a slam, but his feet were pulled out by al-Kassie.  Thoruf fell on top of him and gained the pinfall win.  Good match.  Chris Jordan had his working shoes on and bumped like a madman.

3.)   Corey O'Neill & Joey Envy (faces) defeated Big Brody Hoofer and Aaron Corbin (heels).  Before the match Brody hoofer gave referee Soltis a note to read to the audience.  It reminded us that the Pittsburgh Steelers were now six times Super Bowl champions; six times more than the Minnesota Vikings.  Corbin has some new name I didn't get.  O'Neill went up into the bleachers to slap hands with the crowd.  He said his brother was injured and introduced his replacement, Joey Envy.  Hoofer and Envy start out.  Brody no sold.  Eventually Envy gained the advantage with aerial maneuvers.  When O'Neill and Corbin taged in, Corey worked the arm.  After a time, Corbin was forced into the corner, where Joey Envy hit a double stomp onto Corbin's stomach.  Later, Envy sold in the middle, and came back with a tilt a whirl DDT before the hot tag.  At the end, O'Neill hit that top rope flippy floppy of his onto Corbin and gained the pin.  This match was longer than it needed to be.

Intermission.  Some gospel Rock 'n' Roller sang in the ring.

4.)  Lenny Lane (heel) defeated Sammy "The Bulldog" Savard (face) by DQ.  Lane cut a good promo that put down Elk River in general and Scott Zappa in particular.  This match started out with hard hitting back and forth action.  Lane landed his delayed vertical hanging suplex.  Later he locked Savard into a Boston Crab.  Savard pounded the ring to summon courage.  Thinking Savard had tapped out, Lane released the hold, and raised his arms in victory.  The match went on.  Savard hit a Stone Cold Stunner.  Lane rolled out of the ring.  He grabbed a steel folding chair, and threw it in.  Back in the match continued and referee Rob Page got caught in the action and went down.  Savard grabbed the chair.  He slammed it on the ring mat.  Lane threw himself to the mat.  Page got up, observed the situation, and disqualified Savard.  A ponderous match with  a screw job finish.

5.)  Mitch Paradise (heel) pinned Scotty 2 Hotty (face).  Scott Garland was over with the kids in the crowd.  Paradise tried to lock up but Scotty was too fast for him.  Eventually Mitch got ahold of his foe, then dominated with a very gentle offense.  Not long afterward, Paradise hit a clothesline and got a surprising pin.  In the after the match match, Mitch beat down 2 Hotty.  Eventually that one came back, and hit The Worm.  In the after the after the match match, Scotty got on the mic and explained that the match was just the warm up for the Scotty 2 Hottie show.  He invited youthful audience members into the ring, and assisted them in doing The Worm.  This part lasted longer than the Paradise match.

6.)  Tony De Nucci (face) pinned Chris Black (heel).  It was well past 10 by this point and Your Field Report Team had seen enough.  We left, and earned a dirty look from Mrs. De Nucci for our impertinence.  Just a guess, but Tony won to send the crowd home happy.

My fans in France.

One day I was googlestalking myself and stumbled across this item from a French wrestling board.  The thread is about some of the more obscure aspects of CM Punk's career.  In this post, Auteur JJB references my SPCW field report from the old aol site.  I guess they don't call it the World Wide Web for nothing.

What happened to the old site?

AOL Hometown, holder of the old web site, closed down without warning October 31st.  I am in the process of reconstituting the pages here, with emphasis on the archives, but with video and, I hope, new content.
