AWA (Sheik's Halloween show)

Unlike almost every other wrestling show, this one wasn't video taped. The announcer led the crowd in cheer ‘n' boo practice.

1.) Kenny "The Sodbuster" Jay (face) defeated the Executioner (heel) by DQ. Not much positive to say about this one. The pair looked unable to come up with an ending, so the Executioner hit referee Jeremy Halberg, who then called for the bell.

2.) "TNT" Tesdale (w/Divine, faces) pinned Hellraiser Blood (heel). The announcer said that Tesdale had a win over Kurt Angle. He didn't say when or how. Blood worked the crowd without the benefit of a microphone. It was nice for a change to have an event not focused toward a TV camera. Blood's offense featured a good drop kick and a flying body block which got a two count. In the ending sequence Tesdale did a corner to corner Xena flip, caught Blood's head with his ankles and flipped him over. He followed that up with some sort of a sit-out slam and got the pin. Tesdale would make a much better heel. Too bad he can't change his name because it's tattooed onto his belly.

3.) Horace the Psychopath (face) pinned Doink the Clown (heel). Before the match, Doink went to great pains to hide his can of evil Silly String. Horace got in his senton move early. Soon after that, Doink sprayed him with the string. Right now HTP is perhaps the most underutilized wrestler in town. Back in January he was main eventing with Adam Pearce, but in this match he was reduced to selling to Silly String. Later Horace took a steel chair that a kid was sitting in and hit Doink in the head, hard enough to make a "clunk" noise. The match had a lot of comedy bits including a crotch bite by Horace, a push-up contest, a cart wheel contest. Horace at one point took a swig of Pepsi, took the clown to the end of the gym, rammed his head into the wall, brought him back into the ring, and only then delivered the spit take. Later when the pair were once again out of the ring, a kid in the audience offered his chair to Doink. The clown was hesitant but the kid insisted and said with an earnest expression "No, it's OK!" So Doink took the chair and sat on it. Horace won after a flying body press.

4.) Toni DeNucci (face) pinned Primetime (heel) to win a belt of some sort. What's the point of these meaningless belts anyway? Primetime wore a stupid looking yellow cap. At one point PT shouted to the crowd "Who sucks now?" The crowd responded "You do!" Primetime used a foreign object which got a big reaction from the kids in the audience. DeNucci won after a Xena flip, a jackhammer, a DDT, and a big splash.

5.) Nick Mondo (face) pinned Hellraiser Gutts (w/Adnan, heels) to win some sort of belt. Adnan, coming off of surgery, came out with crutches and did nothing. This was my first look at Mondo, who uses a Martial Arts/Karate Kid gimmick. At the start Gutts invited attacks from Mondo which he no-sold until Mondo surprised him with a roll up for a two count. Then Mondo hit an over the top rope senton. Next the pair fought out of the ring and moved onto the gym stage. Mondo climbed a large wooden box and hit a moonsault which missed and he landed with a thump. Gutts took over on offense, and threw Mondo into an empty section of chairs. Back in the ring Gutts got a two count after a sit out power bomb. Gutts dominated for a time until Mondo made a Superman comeback out of a choke hold and got in an Enziguri. Gutts responded with a neck breaker. Mondo then hit a drop kick and a top rope sunset flip. The pair next went into a two count exchange which climaxed with a double clothesline and a double count. Mondo recovered first and performed in quick succession: a spinning heel kick, a missile drop kick, a senton bomb, a slam, and a second rope springboard moonsault which missed. Gutts countered with a series of unreleased powerbombs, but Mondo slipped out of the last one and got a pin. Good match. I would like to see more of Mondo. --doc d'X
