Capital City Kyle gave the countdown for the all important video recording. Big Daddy Hoofer, not dressed to wrestle, displayed an injured finger. Shifty came out and declared that once again, there was no one for him to wrestle. Commissioner Ashley (Xavier) then said that there was a "mystery opponent" for Shifty. Mitch Paradise is introduced and announced that he separated a shoulder in Waverly and wouldn't be wrestling this night. Mortimer Plumtree and Adrian Lynch were next and ripped on Mitch.
1) Shawn Daivari (face)
pinned Playboy Pete Huge (w/Lacey, heels).
Daivari connected with a drop kick early, causing Pete to bail out of
the ring. Later, Huge was dropped on his crotch over the top rope and
let out a funny high pitched squeal. Daivari's high spots were a
springboard (second rope) legdrop, and a springboard (second rope)
dropkick. PPH connected for the enziguri, a spinning heel kick, and a
good tornado DDT. The end came when Daivari countered a body slam
attempt and pinned the Playboy with a small package. Afterward, Lacey,
who was angry at Huge's performance, left him, causing Pete to exclaim,
"Hey, you're my ride home!" Daivari improves with each effort, but
looks best when in the ring with someone experienced, like PPH.
2) Helmut von Strauss
(heel) pinned Mike Stormwolf (face). Stormwolf
started out with a good sequence of a flying shoulderblock, bodyslam,
legdrop, and clothesline. Von Strauss responded with kicks in the
corner. Helmut then hit a side salto (sidewalk slam), and was going for
a second when Stormwolf converted it into a huracanrana and followed
that with a suplex. Stormwolf knocked von Strauss out of the ring with
his superior drop kick. Helmut came back with an axe kick and his kick
routine, later hitting a fallaway elbow. Von Strauss got the pin
following a Spicolli driver. These two work well together.
3) Charlie Norris (face)
pinned Adrian Lynch (w/Mortimer Plumtree,
heels). Norris's offense was continually neutralized by
Plumtree's
interference. After a time, Norris made a Superman comeback out of a
facelock by Lynch. The finish sequence was, while Plumtree held Norris,
Lynch tried to slug Charlie. He ducked, Adrian hit Morty, and Norris
rolled up Lynch. Plumtree appeared to be out cold and had to be helped
to the back.
4) Sheriff Johnny Emerald
(face) pinned "City Slicker" Jake Ricker
(heel). The Sheriff came to the ring with donut and coffee
in hand.
After Emerald connected with a corner splash, Ricker did a face first
fall to the mat. SJE got in a series of unreleased suplexes and a
bulldog. Ricker came back with a Horace style senton, then climbed to
the top corner turnbuckle, flipped forward 270 degrees, and landed with
a headbutt on Emerald. Ricker tried a pin but pulled up the Sheriff
after two, looking to inflict more punishment. But SJE rebounded with a
sunset flip, a monkeyflip, a pedigree, and the pin. After the match,
Emerald held the "City Slicker" and told a security guard to bring him
his handcuffs. But the guard hit the Sheriff with the cuffs instead.
The guard then removed his shirt that said "security" to reveal one
underneath that said "Shifty." Then Shifty came out with a cowboy hat
and another hat that said "Shifty for Sheriff." He announced that there
was a new Sheriff in town. Next month, he said, there will be an
election for a new Sheriff. Emerald then cleaned house with a double
clothesline.
After intermission Commissioner Ashley (Xavier) called out Shifty, and
announced that his opponent for this night would be Lenny Lane. Shifty
was incredulous and said ‘Where is he?"
(5) Ian Xavier (heel)
defeated Scott Zappa (w/High Rollers, heels) and
Dr. Darin Davis (face) to win the three-way dance by pinning Davis.
Much of this match was the heels double teaming Doc, only to break up
one another's pin attempts. At one point Xavier put a sleeper hold on
Davis, then Zappa immediately put a sleeper hold on Xavier. Davis broke
up both submission tries with a double chinbreaker. Davis set up for a
double rectal exam, but Xavier and Zappa were too far apart to reach.
The finish came when Hoofer did a run in, the High Rollers did a run
in, and Xavier pinned DDD Afterward, Ian feigned sportsmanship by
offering a handshake to Darin, punching him instead. Doc responded with
a clothesline.
(6) Shifty (heel) pinned
Lenny Lane (face) to retain the MPW
Cruiserweight Title. Lane came out smelling of Ben-Gay,
and sported
what looked to be a new tattoo around one wrist. Early on, Lane picked
Shifty up and held him horizontally over the top rope, then dropped him
like a sack of potatoes. Shifty fell flat onto the Armory floor. The
crowd stood and an earnest "EC-dub, EC-dub" chant broke out. Later,
Shifty flipped Lane over the top rope, then dived through the ropes
onto Lane outside of the ring. Shifty threw Lane back into the ring and
went on offense. He connected with a bodyslam, legdrop, tornado DDT,
suplex, and a Shiftyvault legdrop. Lane responded with a facebuster. He
then tried a corner move but Shifty countered and connected with a
toprope huracanrana. Both men were stunned by this move and referee
Terry Fox started a double count. After a short rest break Lane took
over with a flying clothesline and a bulldog for a two count. Lane then
set up for a corner move but Shifty converted that one into a
powerbomb. Shifty then tried a front "tombstone" piledriver but Lane
reversed it into a tombstone of his own. Mortimer Plumtree then got
into the act, and hit Lenny between the legs with his cricket bat. Then
Terry Fox was hit and went down momentarily. Lane pulled Plumtree into
the ring, but while distracted, Shifty came off the top turnbuckle and
did some sort of flip onto Lane that I can't describe, and got the pin.
Adrian Lynch then ran in. Mitch Paradise followed. Lane said to Mitch
"What are you doing here?" and exited the ring. This left Mitch alone
with Shifty, Plumtree, and Lynch, who promptly assaulted Paradise. The
crowd called on Lane to come to his aid. Lenny reentered the ring, but
joined in on the attack on Mitch (heel turn). After a moment, Dr. Darin
Davis, Sheriff Johnny Emerald and Shawn Daivari ran into the ring to
clean house and save Paradise.
This was an excellent main event. It was better than the Lane/Jerry
Lynn match the next day in St. Cloud. It was as good as anything they
do in West St. Paul. It is a leading candidate for local match of the
year.
